The 7th grade writing curriculum follows the Writer's Workshop model where students progress through the writing process as they plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish their writing. Students are required to draw upon and write using evidence. Students are required to use MLA format.

Students are expected to integrate information from a variety of sources, evaluate sources, use media and visual displays to achieve communicative purposes.

In reading, we will be using a variety of sources. Our "textbook" is an online version called StudySync and students have access to a workbook portion with most of the materials included. We may also use Commonlit, Newsela or ReadWriteThink for articles. There are a variety of novels we may use this year as part of our learning some of these titles include:

  • Percy Jackson

  • The Giver

  • A Christmas Carol

  • Stargirl

  • Memoir

  • Written in Bone

  • The Book Thief

  • The Hunger Games

For assessments: I will use both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments will be done in the classroom either on paper or through Socrative. We will use Mastery Connect for tests and quizzes. Mastery Connect will benchmark 3 times a year. Students will also track AIMSWEB twice monthly and benchmark 3 times a year. Student mastery levels will be determined through IXL diagnostic at the beginning of the year.
